Guide Prepare Your Diapering Space
Ensure you have a safe, flat, and clean area for diapering, such as a changing table with a safety strap or a secure floor setup. Gather all supplies beforehand: a diaper, wipes, diaper rash cream, a changing pad, and a disposal bin.
02
Wash Your Hands Thoroughly
Always begin by washing your hands with soap and water. This step is essential for preventing germ transmission.
03
Remove Diaper
Place your baby on their back on the changing surface and always keep one hand on them to prevent rolling or falling. Unfasten the diaper tabs, lift the baby's ankles gently, and slide the soiled diaper out beneath them.
04
Clean Baby’s Skin
Gently clean baby's diaper area thoroughly with wipes or a washcloth, getting between skin folds to reduce infection risk. If rash occurs, apply ointment or barrier cream to the affected area.
05
Replacing a diaper
To change a baby's diaper, place a wipe over the genitals while changing to prevent spraying or splashes. Wipe the diaper area and genitals, raise the baby's legs and lower body by the ankles, and insert a fresh diaper. For boys, point the genitals downward. Change diapers right after bowel movements and every 3-4hours.
06
Secure the Diaper Snugly
Fasten the tabs side closest to you first, adjusting to achieve a snug yet comfortable fit. You should be able to comfortably run two fingers between the diaper. Ensure leg cuffs are pulled out (not tucked in) to prevent leaks. Diapers include a wetness indicator, a stripe that changes colour when wet, helping you know when it’s time for a change.
07
Dispose and Sanitise
Roll up the dirty diaper securely and dispose of it in a diaper pail or trash can. For reusable cloth diapers, flush solids into the toilet first, then soak with skin-friendly disinfectant. Wash your hands and the baby's.
