Every parent wants their baby to sleep soundly—and safely.

However, with so much advice available, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. At BabyLove Sanitary Products & Packaging Ltd, we understand these concerns deeply. That’s why we’re here—not just as a diaper brand, but as a trusted partner in your parenting journey.

We believe that creating a safe sleep environment is one of the most powerful ways to protect your newborn. From the moment your baby arrives, we’re committed to helping you make informed choices that support their health, comfort, and development.

Many caregivers worry about not bed-sharing, especially when their baby might wake up uncomfortable due to a wet diaper. These are valid concerns—and we hear you. Our diapers are designed for overnight comfort, helping reduce disruptions so both baby and parent can rest peacefully.

But we go beyond products. We offer guidance that helps you feel confident in your decisions, whether it’s about sleep positioning, room temperature, or bedtime routines, because peace of mind is just as important as a good night’s sleep.

Sudden Infant Death Syndrome

Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) is the unexplained death of a seemingly healthy baby, usually during sleep and under one year of age. It’s the leading cause of post-neonatal infant mortality globally. SIDS falls under the broader category of Sudden Unexpected Infant Death (SUID), which includes:

  • SIDS (unexplained after investigation)
  • Accidental suffocation and strangulation in bed (ASSB)
  • Unknown causes

According to a 2021 review in the Journal of Global Health, South Africa reports up to 3.7 SIDS deaths per 1,000 live births, with Zambia attributing 11.3% of infant deaths to SIDS. Bedsharing and prone sleeping are common across Africa, contributing to what may be the highest global SIDS rate—though data outside South Africa remains limited.

Understanding the Risks

SIDS is believed to result from a combination of factors:

  • A vulnerable infant (e.g., premature or low birth weight)
  • A critical developmental period
  • An external stressor (e.g., tummy sleeping, soft bedding, overheating)

Risk factors include:

  • Premature birth
  • Exposure to secondhand smoke
  • Sleeping on the Stomach
  • Overheating during sleep
  • Family history of SIDS
